HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL «QAZAQ TILI» SOCIETY
The International «Qazaq Tili» Society was established in 1989 at the First Kurultai held in the city of Almaty. During the Kurultai, the Society’s Charter and Program were approved, and its key goals and objectives were defined.
On November 26, 1992, the Second Kurultai of the Republican «Qazaq Tili» Society took place in Almaty. By decision of the Kurultai, the organization was granted the status of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society. In this connection, a new version of the Charter was adopted, defining the Society’s areas of activity at the international level. In the period between the Second and Third Kurultais, comprehensive measures aimed at the development of the state language were implemented on a consistent basis.
On November 21, 1996, the Third Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society was held in Almaty. As a result of the Kurultai, the Society obtained republican status in accordance with the legislation on public associations and was reorganized as a public association.
On November 11, 2004, the Fourth Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society took place in the city of Astana. During the Kurultai, issues related to enhancing the status of the Kazakh language and determining its future development in the context of twenty-first-century globalization were discussed, resulting in the adoption of a relevant resolution.
On September 22, 2011, the Fifth Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society was held. The meeting addressed issues related to expanding the use of the Kazakh language in both public and governmental spheres. Special attention was given to initiatives aimed at preserving the native language and national traditions among compatriots abroad, including the organization of a network of Kazakh language learning centers coordinated by the International «Qazaq Tili» Society.
On November 26, 2021, the Sixth Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society was held in the city of Turkistan. During the Kurultai, State Secretary Krymbek Kusherbayev read out congratulatory messages from the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The meeting discussed plans for the effective implementation of state language policy, defining priority tasks and key directions for future work. As a result of an open vote by the delegates, Berik Abdigaliuly was elected President of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society.
On July 21, 2023, an extraordinary Seventh Kurultai of the «Qazaq Tili» Society was held in Astana. At the Kurultai, the Society’s President, Berik Abdigaliuly, presented a report on the activities of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society for the previous period. In connection with his transition to public service, he proposed the candidacy of Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, Head of Bilim Group and Director of the Public Foundation «National Translation Bureau», to lead the public association. Following an open vote by the delegates, Rauan Kenzhekhanuly was elected President of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society.
On February 28, 2025, the Eighth Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society was held at the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. In order to improve the effectiveness of the organization’s activities and optimize governance mechanisms, amendments were introduced to the Society’s structure and Charter. The composition of the Board of Trustees, the Executive Board, and the Central Council was renewed and expanded.
On December 10, 2025, the annual summary Kurultai of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society took place in Astana. The Head of the International «Qazaq Tili» Society presented a report on the work carried out within the framework of the 2025 action plan.
